Animal Scientist and Farmer
Khristy is a very passionate and dedicated person in the field of agriculture. She spends many tireless hours serving the members of the Trinidad and Tobago Goat and Sheep Society. As a young woman in the Agricultural Sector she strongly advocates for improving the livelihood of small farmers. As a farmer herself she is a leader in the trenches understanding the major challenges that small farmers face. She actively provides volunteer service to farmers including Ultrasonography, Reproductive Technologies and other technical advice. She also trains farmers in the field of Animal Science, recently she was part of a team that trained over 30 participants which included farmers, producers, students and members of the Network of Rural women in producing value added goats' milk products.
She also participates in volunteer community projects in various rural schools training and inspiring students in the field of agriculture. Khristy along with her husband owns and operates an integrated farm that includes sheep, ducks, chickens and vegetable production. Khristy believes strongly in sustainability and protection of the environment she operates her family's farm in a very sustainable manner by integrating the activities on the farm. She produces vegetables mainly using the manure produced from the livestock on the farm, the livestock also benefit from waste from their vegetable production. She collaborates with many International and local Agencies as she attempts to shape and mold the local agricultural sector.
Khristy is also a post graduate student in the field of Biotechnology, it is her hope to improve her capacity and use new technologies to further improve Agriculture in Trinidad and Tobago.
